Humpbacks offshore, Friday fireworks from the lanai, and a high king bed facing the water.

A mirror wall doubles the ocean, so the whole room feels like it's floating. Then turn around: tropical flowers, a handwritten note on a handmade card, and a box of Hawaiian chocolates.
Zen Oasis is a one-bedroom corner penthouse on the 18th floor of the Ilikai Marina, with nobody above you and just one shared wall. It's made for two, and only two.
Morning. The doves start up on the lanai. Grind the beans, then carry two cups back to bed and watch the surfers line up offshore.
Midday. Maybe the beach, with chairs, towels and a picnic backpack packed with real dishes. Maybe a boat from the marina to find the whales. Maybe nothing at all.
Afternoon. Come back to sea glass and stone. Roll out a yoga mat by the window while the sun streams in.
Evening. Pour the wine as the sun goes down over the water. Dinner at the walnut bar, then leave the shades up. The last thing you'll see is the water.
The top-floor corner. No one overhead, one shared wall, and ocean in front of every window.
Made for two. No sofa bed and no extra guests, unlike most units in the building. It stays calm.
The whole view, edge to edge. Voice-controlled shades disappear when you want the ocean. No heavy drapes across the glass.
A home with a history. The art and accessories came from our own home, down to Grandma's cast iron.
Gigabit wifi. 1,000 Mbps, fast enough for a video call from the lanai if you really have to.
The marina below. Whale-watching and sunset boats leave right downstairs. Magic Island is five minutes on foot.
From late November through March, humpbacks breach offshore (peak season is January through March, and the binoculars are waiting). Palm trees below are wrapped in holiday lights, the Friday fireworks go up right in front of the lanai after the yacht club races, and on New Year's Eve the Hilton Lagoon show is a five-minute walk away.

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's still have dates open, and whale season runs through March. Plan it around a Friday. Why not?
5 min walk: Magic Island, Ala Moana Beach Park and the Hilton Lagoon
20 min walk: Duke's, the Royal Hawaiian and the main stretch of Waikiki
Downstairs: the Chart House, the Harbor Pub and Sao Paulo Pizzeria
In the marina: whale watching, sunset cruises, sailing and snorkeling
10 min drive: Tane for a special dinner, and ʻIolani Palace downtown
For body and mind: the Still and Moving Center at 1024 Queen Street, about a 10-minute drive or a 30-minute walk, for hula, Nia, tango, yoga, tai chi and qigong. Every guest's first class is on us, with 25% off after that.
Is it quiet? It's a top-floor corner unit with no one above and one shared wall, for two guests only. Close the lanai door for quiet. Open it, and you can hear the ocean.
When can we see whales? Humpbacks are off Oahu from late November into early May, with peak season January through March.
Do we need a rental car? No. The beach and Magic Island are five minutes on foot. If you want a car for a day, there's a rental desk in the garage, and parking is $35 a night.
Is the wifi good enough to work? Yes. It's gigabit wifi, 1,000 Mbps, so video calls and streaming are no problem.
Who do we contact with questions? Before you book, message Sandra directly, and you'll hear back from her, not a property management company. Once you've booked, Ryan, our house manager in Honolulu, is your go-to for anything during your stay.
Can we bring a third guest? No. Zen Oasis is made for two guests only, and there's no sofa bed.

From 2011 to 2013 we lived right across the street, so when this condo came up, we already knew the view and the quiet end of Waikiki. We refreshed it top to bottom and filled it with art and pieces from our own home, from Grandma's cast iron to a mirror that hung in our Georgia home for 25 years.
On Sundays you'll find us dancing at Duke's. We hope Zen Oasis brings you comfort, rest and renewal.
